14. The Seventh Bhūmi
evam ukte āyuṣmān mahākāśyapa āyuṣmantaṃ mahākātyāyanam uvāca || ye ime bho dhutadharmadhara bodhisatvāḥ avaivartikāḥ ṣaṣṭhāto bhūmito saptamāṃ bhūmiṃ saṃkramanti teṣāṃ kevarūpaṃ sandhicittaṃ bhavatīti || evam ukte āyuṣmān mahākātyāyana āyuṣmantaṃ mahākāśyapaṃ gāthābhir adhyabhāṣata ||
ātmadamathe pravartayate cittaṃ paramamahājanahitāna |
yat saptamāṃ bhūmi saṃkramanti tathā bhūmiṣu tatsandhicittam iti ||
evam ukte āyuṣmān mahākāśyapa āyuṣmantaṃ mahākātyāyanam uvāca || ye ime bho jinaputra bodhisatvā avaivartikāḥ te prathamāyāṃ bhūmau upādāya kevarūpeṇa kāyakarmeṇa samanvāgatā bhavanti kevarūpeṇa vācākarmeṇa samanvāgatā bhavanti kevarūpeṇa manakarmeṇa samanvāgatā bhavanti kevarūpeṇa sattvena samanvāgātā bhavanti || evam ukte āyuṣmān mahākātyāyana āyuṣmantaṃ mahākāśyapam uvāca || ye ime bho dhutadharmadhara bodhisatvā avaivartikās teṣāṃ prathamāṃ bhūmim upādāya imāni karmāṇi bhavanti || praṇātipātavairamaṇaṃ prāṇātipātavairamaṇasya va varṇaṃ bhāṣanti tadadhyāśayān bhūmiṣu satvān praśaṃsanti ye na paraṃ ca kiṃcit pāpamitrasaṃyogena prāṇāṃ jīvitād vyaparopayanti || paraṃ saptahi bhūmīhi tehi vikrośamānehi satvehi karuṇāṃ pratilabhitvā śīlaṃ samādiyitvā rājyaṃ vā parityajya yad vā tad vā aiśvaryaṃ tyaktvā agārebhyo ’nagāriyaṃ pravrajitvā prāṇātipātavairamaṇasya bahulaṃ dharmaṃ deśayanti ||
bhūtapūrvaṃ ca bho dhutadharmadhara saptamāyāṃ bhūmau vartamāno ayaṃ paramapuruṣo rājā kuśo nāma babhūva || tasya devī apratimā nāma abhūṣī yā iyaṃ yaśodharā rāhulaśirisya mātā || yo cāyaṃ etarahi kalipuruṣo devadattaḥ so tadā jaṭharo nāma pradeśarājā babhūva || tāṃ śrutvā devīm apratiṃāṃ kāmarāgo mānasaṃ paryādinnavāṃ || so rājñaḥ kuśasya dūtam apreṣaye ||
dehi apratimāṃ devīṃ mama bhāryā bhaviṣyatīti |
atha na dāsi yuddhaṃ te sajjaṃ sajjaya vāhanaṃ ||yat te vyavasitaṃ rāja tad anupreṣayasva me |
atha nānupreṣayasi me sarājyo vasam eṣyasi ||evaṃ śrutvā kuśo rājā bhāriyām idam abravīt* |
śṛṇohi devi jaṭharasya vacanaṃ brūhi niścayaṃ ||
tato devī aśruvegaṃ pramuṃcitvā rājānaṃ kuśam uvāca ||
bhadra vata ahaṃ chedye ahaṃ bhedye narādhipa |
tvayā anatiriccāpi śastrehi pāramiṃ gatā ||jaṭharasya śiraṃ rāja paśya samakūṭaṃ mayā |
chinnaṃ rudhirasaṃklinnaṃ tava pādeṣu veṣṭatu ||mayā tu jantunā tyaktaḥ sonāhārīkṛtaṃ śaraḥ |
jaṭharasya bhittvā svadehaṃ bhūyo bhetsyati medinīṃ ||aśvapṛṣṭhe rathe skandhe vāraṇasya kṛtaṃ mayā |
yodhanaravarāgre ca jaṭharasyāntaṃ kṛtaṃ mahaṃ ||ahaṃ mantre ahaṃ sandhyā ahaṃ vacanakartṛme |
aghātyam api ghātaye hetubhiḥ kāraṇaiḥ tathā ||dvābhyāṃś ca parimokṣeyaṃ aham eva niropama |
mama māyā hy asaṃkhyeyā lokaḥ tṛṇamayo mama ||gandhamālyadharo rājā prāsādatalagocaraḥ |
strīsahasrāṃkam āsṛtya yathā ca nirutsuko siyā iti ||
atha bho jinaputra devī apratimā tathārūpaṃ upāyam ādeśayi yenopāyena rājā jaṭharo viśvasta antaḥpuraṃ rājñaḥ kuśasya praviśi vaśam upāgato devyā apratimāyā || atha sā devī apratimā rājño jaṭharasya hṛdaye padaṃ dakṣiṇaṃ kṛtvā savyaṃ pādaṃ gulphe pratiṣṭhāpya ślokān imān agāsi ||
yāṃ puṣpitāṃ vanalatāṃ bhramarāḥ pibanti
puṣpāgame kusumareṇuvicitrapakṣā |
naiva tvayā kupuruṣa śrutapūrvarūpaṃ
nātrāpare madhukarāḥ praṇayaṃ karonti ||yāṃ padminīṃ vanagajo aruhe kadācit*
paṃke jalapralulitāṃ madanāturāṅgaḥ |
naiva tvayā kupuruṣa śrutapūrvarūpaṃ
nātrāpare vanagajāḥ praṇayaṃ karonti ||yā bhūmipālamahitasya ure vitīrṇā
muktākalāpa iva saṃramate niśāyāṃ |
kamalāṃ tuvaṃ vyavasito anavadyagātrīṃ
prāptuṃ mahītalagato iva pūrṇacandram iti ||
atha khalu bho dhutadharmadhara rājā jaṭharo tasmiṃ kāle vikrośati || prasīda devi śaraṇaṃ prayacchatheti || tāṃ devīm apratimāṃ kuśo rājā uvāca ||
abhayaṃ dadāhi devī kāpuruṣasya śaraṇaṃ upagatasya |
tasya kṛtāṃjalipuṭasya yāvaṃ eṣu hi satāṃ dharma iti ||
bhūtapūrvaṃ bho dhutadharmadhara eṣo bhagavān ugro nāma nāgarājā ahituṇḍikena mantrauṣadhibalair vaśanītaḥ sambādham āpanno babhūva || so ca pramādāt* ahituṇḍiko bhraṣṭamantro babhūva || atha tasya ugrasya nāgarājño etad abhavat* || prāpyo khalv ayaṃ mama kāpuruṣo bhasmīkartum iti | api tu naitad asmākam anurūpaṃ dharmarakṣānuraktānām iti || ślokān uvāca ||
yo pi tuvaṃ mama prāpyo bhasmīkartuṃ svatejasā |
bhraṣṭamantrasya te demi abhayaṃ jīva me ciram iti ||
bhūtapūrvaṃ bho dhutadharmadhara eṣa eva bhagavān siṃho mṛgarājā eṣa cāyaṃ kupuruṣadevadatto lubdhako babhūva || athainaṃ siṃhayogyāvasthopavane vanavicāriṃ ekacaraṃ upāsīnaṃ viśvastaṃ nirviceṣṭaṃ nirvṛtam aparipaśyantaṃ pūrvāśayopacitabaddhavairaḥ lubdhako digdheṣuṇā aviddha || so ca viddhaḥ stimito gambhīradhairyopapannaḥ svabale paryavasthitaḥ asantrasta īṣadunnataśirodharo tadā tam asatpuruṣaṃ bhītaṃ layanam upagataṃ niśāmya cintām āpannaḥ || prāpyo khalv ayaṃ mama adhamapuruṣo giriśikharaguhāvṛkṣarasātalagato pi hantuṃ | api tu na vaireṇa vairāṇi śāmyante iti kṛtvā imaṃ ślokam uvāca ||
viṣaliptena viddho ’haṃ śareṇa marmaghātinā |
adyaivaṃ na bhavet tasya bhītasya nāsti te bhayam iti ||
bhūtapūrvaṃ bho dhutadharmadhara eṣaiva bhagavān sārthavāho babhūva saṃmataḥ || sārtho cānenaiva asatpuruṣeṇa devadattena deśikena sārthacaurair upaskṛtena kāntārādhvānamārgapratipannaḥ || pūrvavairānuṣaṅgapratibaddhamānasas taṃ sārthacaurair ghātāpayitum upasaṃkrāntaḥ || taiś ca vāṇijaiḥ sārthavāhapramukhais te caurā nigṛhītā deśikapūrvaṃgamāś ca vadham upanīyantā vikrośantā aśaraṇāḥ sārthavāham eva śaraṇam upagatāḥ deśikaś ca parādhāparāddhaḥ kṛtāṃjalipuṭaḥ sārthavāham abhayaṃ yāci || tasya bhavaśatasahasraparicitā karuṇāvihāriṇo karuṇā samutthitā prāṇahareṣu api teṣu abhayaṃ dattvā deśikam uvāca ||
anuvātaṃ mayā muktaḥ dhūmo deśaṃ vināśayet* |
deśikaṃ saha caurebhyaḥ anujānāmi jīvitam iti ||
bhūyaś ca bho dhutadharmadhara iminā eva ca bhagavatā rājñā satā agramahiṣyāḥ mahāparādhāparāddhāyā vadhasthānaprāptāyāḥ yācintyā abhayaṃ dattaṃ | pūrvopacitamārdavārjavasaṃpanna agramahiṣīṃ śāntvayitvā imaṃ ślokam uvāca ||
hantāsyā āmapātreṇa śastraṃ kāyena pātayet* |
abhayan te ahaṃ demi tac ca sthānaṃ yathāpuram iti ||
evam ādīni bho dhutadharmadhara duṣkaraśatasahasrāṇi kṛtāni bodhisatvehi ye avaivartikā evaṃ kāyena evaṃ vācā evaṃ manasā || bahuvidhaguṇayuktā saṃsāraṃ saṃsarantā bodhisatvāś ca bhavanti | api tu karmavaśam upāgamya guṇasaṃkṣepakīrtitakriyā te bodhisatvā bhavanti | dṛḍhavikramā dhṛtiyuktāḥ satyapratijñā ārjavā aśaṭhā bhavanti | akṛpaṇāś ca bhavanti | alolāś ca bhavanti | mārdavāś ca bhavanti | sānukrośāś ca vimardasahāś ca aparyādinnacittāś ca alolitacittāś ca durdharṣāś ca durjayāś ca satvayuktāś ca tyāgasaṃpannāś ca pratijñāsaṃpannāś ca bhavanti | pratibhānavantāś ca vicitrapratibhānavantāś ca nayanasaṃpannāś ca atittigāś ca bhavanti | paramārthābhiniviṣṭāś ca bhavanti | saṃgṛhītagrāhiṇaś ca bhavanti | śucisamācārāś ca bhavanti | āniṃjyacittāś ca bhavanti | atīva bahumānayuktāś ca bhavanti | gurujanasajjanaupacārasaṃpannāś ca bhavanti | upāyakuśalāś ca bhavanti | sarvakāryeṣu sandhigrahasaṃyojakāś ca bhavanti | rājakāryeṣu padasandhividuṣaś ca bhavanti | pariṣāskhalitavacanā ugravacanamarṣayitāraś ca bhavanti | jñānaketavo bahujanasaṃgrahakuśalāś ca bhavanti | samacittā anupakruṣṭavṛttidvārāś ca bhavanti | prasiddhakarmāntā abhyupapattikuśalāś ca bhavanti | paraduḥkheṣu parikaraṇakuśalāś ca bhavanti | āsvādādīnaveṣu aśithilamadhurāś ca kutsitadarśaneṣu doṣasamudghātakuśalāś ca bhavanti | parakopīnacchādaneṣu aparikhinnāś ca bhavanti | phalanirvṛtyaparikāṃkṣiṇaḥ rāgadveṣamohavivekakuśalamūlāś ca bhavanti | kleśavyayaśamābhyupakārakuśalāś ca bhavanti | sarvopakāriṣu vicikitsāparivarjitāś ca bhavanti | sarvadharmeṣu aparikhinnasaṃkalpāś ca bhavanti | gambhīrabuddhadharmeṣu īhopasaṃpannāś ca bhavanti | paramārthādhigame anupaliptakāyakarmavākkarmamanokarmāś ca bhavanti | bhavasajjīvatatve aparāmṛṣṭaśubhakarmāś ca bhavanti | jñānaparamā asaṃkliṣṭapratibhānāś ca bhavanti | buddhaviṣayābhilāṣiṇaḥ apratyādeśanaparāś ca bhavanti | jñānaketava akhinnavacanāḥ pravarjanākuśalāś ca bhavanti | aduṣṭasvabhāvagatā parābhavāpagatāś ca bhavanti | vigatasāvadyāś ca bhavanti | trividhauddhatyaparivartijatāś ca bhavanti | sthitalapā akāmakāminaś ca bhavanti | amaithunagāminaḥ sarvasatvasaṃgrahaṇāvidūṣakāś ca lokam anupraviṣṭāḥ kṛtaniścayabalādhānāś ca bhavanti | sarvakarmeṣu nānāsthānāsthānakuśalāś ca bhavanti satvādyāś ca ity evaṃ guṇasaṃpannā bhavanti | puṅgavā asaṃkhyeyaguṇadhīrā satveṣu samabuddhino bhavanti ca | atra ucyate ||
na śakyaṃ gaganasya antaṃ gantuṃ sarvavihaṃgamaiḥ |
na śakyaṃ sarvasatvehi guṇā jñātuṃ svayambhuvām iti ||
ye ca bho dhutadharmadhara lokahitasukhārthaṃ mantrā vā agadā vā satvānām upakārāye kalpenti sarve te bodhisatvehi praṇītā || yāni ca bhaiṣajyāni loke pracaranti satvānāṃ hitasukhārthaṃ sarvāṇi tāni bodhisatvebhyaḥ upaśiṣṭāni || yāni ca śāstrāṇi tattvaniścayayuktāni loke pracaranti sarvāṇi tāni bodhisatvanītāni || yac ceha loke saṃkhyāgaṇanaṃ mudrāsthānāni ca sarvā eṣā bodhisatvānāṃ nīti || yā vā imā loke saṃjñā brāhmī puṣkarasārā kharostī yāvanī brahmavāṇī puṣpalipī kutalipī śaktinalipī vyatyastalipī lekhalipī mudrālipī ukaramadhuradaradacīṇahūṇāpīrā vaṅgā sīphalā tramidā dardurā ramaṭhabhayavaicchetukā gulmalā hastadā kasūlā ketukā kusuvā talikā jajarideṣu akṣabaddhaṃ sarvā eṣā bodhisatvānāṃ nīti || kanakarajatatraputāmrasīsamaṇiratanakṣetrāṇi sarvāṇy etāni bodhisatvānāṃ nītiḥ || yāni yāni ca kāraṇāni lokasya upakārāye kalpenti sarvāṇy etāni bodhisatvanītāni || tatredam ucyate ||
lokasya arthaviduṣaḥ puruṣapradhānāḥ
saṃsāram apratisamāḥ parivartamānāḥ |
śreyaś caranti marumānuṣaguhyakānāṃ
paramo hi samudāgama īśvarāṇām iti ||
evam ukte āyuṣmān mahākāśyapa āyuṣmantaṃ mahākātyāyanam uvāca || ye te bho jinaputra avaivartikās teṣāṃ kiṃ cittam utpadyate || evam ukte āyuṣmān mahākātyāyana āyuṣmantaṃ mahākāśyapam uvāca || ye te bho dhutadharmadhara bodhisatvā avaivartikās teṣāṃ saptamāto bhūmito aṣṭamāṃ bhūmiṃ saṃkramantānāṃ mahākaruṇāsaṃprayuktaṃ cittam utpadyate ||
ity eṣā saptamā bhūmi bodhisatvānam ucyate iti ||
